Selecting transportation for your wedding day – whether to get you and your wedding party in time for the ceremony or for your and your spouse’s get-away car after the reception – is another important detail to be taken into consideration.

The traditional choice for wedding transportation in the United States is a limousine.  This is a good choice for you if you want your bridesmaids and your maid of honor to ride with you on your way to the ceremony and/or to the reception.  However, there are other alternatives to the traditional limo.

Wedding Carriage

If you are planning a fairy tale themed or outdoor wedding, consider hiring a horse-drawn wedding carriage for your transportation.   There are also classic cars that you can hire for both your “entrance” car and your get-away transportation.

If you are planning to stick to a budget or just want to do something different, ask a friend or  a relative to provide your transportation in a nice car.

If you do choose to go with a limo, you still have some options. You can select a white or black limo, as well as a variety of sizes and styles.

When booking your transportation, remember to ask these important questions:

• Is there a minimum time frame for the limo? If there is a minimum, say three hours, then keep in mind that you will be paying for those three hours even if you only use the limo for 30 minutes.

• How many vehicles does the company have? You want to be sure that there is more than one vehicle in case of unexpected problems that may require a backup vehicle.

• What do the drivers wear? You may have some choice in their attire if this is important to you.

• Are any extras included? Many companies offer a complementary bottle of champagne.

• What are the fees, taxes, and other charges? Are gratuities included?

Most companies will also require you to sign a contract when you pay your deposit.  Be sure to read through this carefully.  Most contracts have terms that state you will be charged additional fees for any spills or other messes in the car.  In some cases this even includes glitter, so many sure you understand what you need to watch out for.

A limo can be a fun, traditional form of transportation but use your imagination and choose something that defines your style and taste as a couple. The sky is the limit!
