I realize I am commenting on a really old post, but I just had to say something. Even though the ceremony itself hasn't changed in centuries little things have been tweaked to make it resemble a western wedding. This has been done to include people marrying into the Orthodox tradition. One of the things that has changed is the groom waiting at the church door for the bride and walking in together. This is just not done, except in the smallest villages. When this was practice the betrothal service also happened at the door of the church before people entered. Now days there is a processional and the father of the bride also walks the bride down the isle. Then the traditional service happens all at the alter.

[...] Greek Orthodox Wedding Our cultural wedding for this week is the Greek Orthodox Wedding. The Greek Orthodox ceremony is very traditional and has not changed much in many years. It is a very unique event, full of symbolism and tradition. Watch the video at the end of this depicting a Greek Orthodox Wedding. Ceremony: Prior to the ceremony, the guests and groom stand outside the church, awaiting the arrival of the bride. The groom usually holds a bouquet of flowers to give to his bride. T Source: http://completelyweddings.com/greek-orthodox-wedding/ [...]
